Municipal Library of Prague Deployed Raydesk
Stickfish equipped three classrooms with the Raydesk virtual desktop. The classrooms with 40 workstations altogether are used for education of the library employees, as well as computer courses teaching both MS Windows and Linux, along with other library information systems.
The taxing preparations of the classrooms before each class put unnecessary strain on the IT staff. All PCs had to be installed individually. The inadequate PC maintenance process in the classrooms and the needless expenditures associated with employee training led to the deployment of the Sun Ray 2 virtual desktop units which consume less than 4 W. The chosen desktop was the Raydesk virtual desktop. The Raydesk desktop now allows he library to change course profiles for all participants in a matter of seconds, instead of the long work associated with modifications of each PC's image. All desktops are run on a server which is also used to manage user and course profiles according to teachers' requirements or training programme updates. Nothing needs to be done on user desktops.
Stickfish designed an effective mode for independent switching of different classroom profiles using smart cards. Every teacher is issued a set of 5 smart cards, each for a different class and a course participant's workstation profile. A single insertion of a smart card into a teacher's virtual desktop resets all desktops in a given classroom. The entire change of profile only takes a few seconds. Should the need arise, all teachers can make operative modifications to classroom profiles. It only takes a few seconds to, for example, add a new icon for launching a new application on all user desktops.
