Thin Clients Working with Raydesk via Linux RDP Server

The Raydesk virtual desktop platform has now been confirmed to work with thin client workstations from major manufacturers, including WYSE, HP, and Dell, using Linux RDP servers. Tests have shown the solution to be capable of achieving an acceptable level of overall performance.

Technical details: the solution utilizes the xRDP implementation of RDP, which uses XVNC and X11RDP as graphic servers; other VNC servers (TightVNC, TigerVNC, TurboVNC, etc.) work as well with similar results. The sesman tool is used for PAM authentication and session management. The only two drawbacks of this set-up are: X11RDP supports a maximum of 16-bit color depth, and xRDP provides no support for audio input/output and other peripherals.

The Raydesk installer in the next version of the product will feature an option for the installation and set-up of xRDP. In the meantime, manual installation and configuration is possible using a pre-packaged copy of the software available from the Raydesk wiki.
